Model Railway Layout Backdrops

September 14th, 2009 by Model Railway Layouts

Backdrops can provide instant scenery for your model railway layout.  Backdrops for a wide variety of scenes and backgrounds can be purchased.  You can find backdrops for sky with clouds, mountains, city, industrial, residential, rolling hills, stormy skies, and many, many more.  Backdrops are generally higher quality than backgrounds, which may not matter if you are not close to your model railway layout.  If you can get up close, however, you might want to consider a high quality background.

If you have the time and skill, you could also consider creating your own backdrop.  A blue sky with clouds is not terribly difficult to do and can add a lot to your model railway layout.  One thought is to simply have your layout over towards a wall and to paint the background right on the wall all the way up to the ceiling.  With a little more practice and skill you could also add mountains and trees. If you have interest in doing your own backdrops, check out Painting Backdrops for Your Model Railroad for information to help you.

Whatever you decide to do, your model railway layouts will be greatly enhanced by a great looking backdrop!
